Material and assembly

An A1 classification under EN 13501-1 describes the reaction to fire of the assessed building product. It does not automatically establish a fire-resistance period for a roof assembly. That requires a different assessment with a defined build-up and exposure.

The position of the fire matters

A fire below a roof is not the same situation as a fire between PV modules and the membrane. Insulation, fixings, seams and PV geometry also affect what a report demonstrates. Evidence for a ceiling cannot simply be transferred to a protective layer below solar panels.

What evidence should you request?

Ask for the complete classification or test report, the precise product version and the field of application. Compare the tested layer sequence, thicknesses, substrate and fixing method with your project. Record deviations before drawing conclusions. Environmental certificates and emissions labels do not answer these fire-performance questions.

Ask not only “Is the board A1?” but also “Which evidence applies to my complete roof build-up?”
